What types of anchor bolts are available?
There are many types of anchor bolts available. The simplest is a cast in place anchor. Most designs consist of a hex type bolt with a threaded end. It is cast in wet concrete and is set in place as the concrete dries. Other designs for set in place anchor bolts have different types of heads but are set in place in the same manner. Another type of anchor bolt is the epoxy bolt. These are used in concrete that has already set. These anchor bolts are installed by drilling a precise hole and filling it with epoxy then setting the bolt in the epoxy. A third type is the mechanical anchor bolt. This bolt has a wedge at the bottom of the bolt. Tightening the bolt drives a wedge against a sleeve around the bolt creating a jam fit in the concrete.
How are Anchor Bolts used?
Anchor bolts are used in many structural situations. They are most commonly used to anchor machinery to a shop floor. They are also used in many construction projects where they are used to anchor walls to the concrete pad or install various fixtures and equipment. Anchor bolts are also used for security. Anchor bolts can be used to install u-clamps in garages so a chain can be used to secure anything from a motorcycle to a lawn mower.
What sizes are Anchor Bolts available in?
Anchor bolts are available in a wide variety of sizes. The most common are one-quarter inch diameter in lengths of one inch up to four inches. Larger anchor bolts are commonly available up through one-inch diameter and twelve inches long. Many anchor bolts are proprietary to specific applications and may be much larger than those most commonly used in standard applications.
