Why Assortments?
In maintenance, you just never know when something will breakdown and what part you will need to fix it. This means that unlike in production, where you order a lot of a few items — in maintenance you need a few of a wide variety of parts. These parts are generally grouped by type into assortments. So, you have assortments to allow the personnel to have the right products at hand and to be able to retrieve them quickly.
How are assortments arranged?
Assortments are typically arranged from small sizes to large sizes. Bins will typically have labels for each compartment while drawers will have backplates or planograms on the inside lid covers. The backplates show what should be in any compartment that has run empty.
Many assortments are planned as general- purpose assortments and other are custom designed with a specific user in mind.
