What styles of block terminals are available?

Block terminals have three different types or styles as noted below:

  • Regular block
  • Flanged block
  • Locking block

How is a Block Terminal used?

A Block terminal gets is name from the way it is formed. The edges of the terminal that slide under a fastener are squared off, giving it a square block form. The Block terminal is typically designed to fit into a terminal block where a series of terminations are made. The square block design allows the terminal to slide in the appropriate space and make good connection under a fastener. The flanged block is turned up (flanged) at the end to prevent it from slipping out from under the fastener. The locking block is designed to wrap around the threads of the fastener and prevents it from falling off if the fastener becomes loose. Block terminals were designed for terminal strips or terminal blocks, often found in control panels, but they can be used in other situations.

What types of insulations are available on Block Terminals?

Block terminals have a variety of insulation options. Options of insulation and a description of each is noted below:

  • Bare (non- insulated) Bare insulated block terminals are the least expensive and are typically used in higher temperature applications.
  • Vinyl- The least expensive insulation type, vinyl insulation provides excellent insulation properties
  • Nylon- Nylon is a step up from vinyl insulation and typically contains a second brass insert that acts as a strain relief when the terminal is double crimped.
  • Heat shrink- Heat shrink is applied to the block terminal giving an environmental seal, a strain relief and are ideal for areas where moisture is a concern.
