Just what does the MRO industry mean by Cabinetry?

Cabinetry is a term used in MRO to describe the group of storage equipment items used to organize the parts used by mechanics. This group includes:

  • Bins -open faced bins — originally designed for bolts/capscrews
  • Drawers — originally used to store small screws and terminals
  • Racks — first used with wire spools

When did the MRO industry first begin using Cabinetry?

No one is positive exactly when the current style of cabinets were first employed—but back in the 40s mechanics were using baby-food jars and coffee cans to hold their "nuts and bolts". This caused then to spend excess time searching for the right part. They would even go out and buy more of the same screw or other part just because they could not locate the original batch quick enough.

Where do we see cabinetry used today?

Now-a-days the line of cabinets has been expanded to fill the needs of just about everything a mechanic uses, They allow a mechanic to find the right part quickly and be assured the parts he wants to stock are indeed in stock
