Elevator Bolts

Hi-Line brings the store to you!

What is an elevator bolt?

Elevator bolts have a large flat smooth countersunk head. They were originally designed for attaching elevator buckets to conveyer belts used in moving bulk materials such as coal and dirt. Da Vinci first developed the modern bucket elevator design. This is still the primary function of elevator bolts but as with most fasteners they have been used in many other applications.

What are the main styles of elevator bolts?

The most common style of elevator bolt is often called the Norway or simply elevator bolt. It has a square neck similar to a carriage bolt. This same style is made with a slightly rounded head and is referred to as a step bolt. You will also see elevator bolts with ribs underneath the head or pointed flanges underneath for gripping the belt material. Sometimes the head may be slotted in these styles.

What sizes do elevator bolts come in?

Elevator bolts are most often made in sizes ¼" to ½" in UNC threads. However there has been growth in equivalent metric sizes and threads.

What material are elevator bolts made from?

You will most often see elevator bolts stocked in non heat-treated, zinc-plated steel, black oxide steel and in 18-8 stainless steel.
