What are Non-Woven Abrasive Hand Pads made of?
Non-Woven Hand Pads are a combination of abrasive grains bonded to a tough, durable, nylon mesh and a resin bond that binds the other components together. The four most common abrasive gains used are listed below.
- Aluminum Oxide -- this abrasive is tough and durable. Non-Woven Hand Pads containing Aluminum Oxide are maroon / brown in color.
- Silicon Carbide -- is a sharp, sliver like abrasive grain that has a sharp cutting action. Non-Woven Abrasives containing Silicon Carbide are grey / black in color.
- Alumino-Silicate -- this man made grain is less aggressive than Aluminum Oxide or Silicon Carbide and is used primarily for "Pot Scrubbers" and are green in color.
- Talc -- non-scratch abrasive for light duty cleaning and it is white in color.
