What styles of retaining rings are there?

The three standard styles of retaining rings used are: Internal retaining rings that are used inside bores, External retaining rings that are used on shafts & E-Clip retaining rings which are also used on shafts.

Internal Retaining Rings — for Bores E–Clips — for Shafts

External Retaining Rings — for Shafts

There are a multitude of other specialized styles of retaining rings made, such as: Bowed, beveled, double beveled, circular push-on, inverted, crescent, prong-lock & constant sections.

How do you measure a retaining ring?

To measure a retaining ring you typically take measurements of its thickness and its internal and/or external diameters. Most times a template of profiles of rings can be found to speed-up this process.
