What styles of toggle switches are available?
There are rocker, toggle, ignition, rotary, headlamp, wiper, push-pull, and momentary switches. It is important to understand how switches can work with countless applications.
How does a toggle switch work?
It's a kind of mechanical or joint consisting of two arms, which are almost in line with each other, connected with an elbow-like pivot. Switches turn things On and Off, by allowing electricity to flow. They do this by opening and closing circuits and even diverting electricity from one place to another within a circuit. The circuit can be used as a path along which electrical current moves or flows. In short form it means just about any kind of switches with a short handle and a positive snap-action, whether it actually contains a toggle mechanism or not will be referred to as a toggle switch.
What types of toggle switches are available?
Rocker switches are designed for use with customized faceplates and work the same way in most universal switch applications. Toggle switches are your most common standardized switches (these consist of your single pole levels). Rotary and headlamp switches are compact switches which have a knob and stem, aluminum hardware, with plated brass terminals. Knobs provide a turning action and snap on, and have a very positive detent action. Wiper switches come with intermittent delay feature for permanent magnet electric wiper motors. These switches come with a black plastic knob with metal insert and set screw, white imprint hard die cast case, and a square long mounting stem (hex nut and washer include with switch). They can control most two-speed wiper motors. The push-pull switch is the easiest to use out of all the switches with a very basic motion for off-on applications. Momentary switches have an off-on function, normally off. Press on with the button depressed, spring return to turn off. They generally come with a black or chrome plated button and face nut.
